The global economy must decarbonize completely by 2050 by shifting from fossil-based systems of energy production and consumption to renewable energy sources like wind, water, and solar and by increasing electrification and improvements in energy storage. However its estimated that over 700 million people still did not have access to electricity in 2019 and over 2 billion people remained without access to clean cooking.
